Yinusa Yakubu is a Nigerian computer scientist, entrepreneur, and systems builder concerned with the architectures that allow ambitious work to endure. His work sits at the intersection of technology, artificial intelligence, agriculture, food systems, organisational design, and innovation. Across these fields, he is interested in a recurring problem: how can people and institutions coordinate complex work without losing clarity, judgment, or the ability to learn?
He is the founder of FARMCI Technology Limited, an agricultural data and intelligence company working to make food systems more legible, resilient, and valuable. FARMCI brings together the practical realities of agriculture with the growing importance of data infrastructure, intelligence, and decision-making systems. Alongside this work, Yinusa is developing the foundations of SAINA — Synchronized Artificial Information and Networking of Automation. SAINA is a protocol for reconciling the data, information, and activity distributed across AI systems into a continuously evolving intelligence layer. Its longer ambition is to create a user-owned model of context: an accumulating representation of the information an individual controls, the decisions they make, and the patterns through which they work and reason.
Yinusa’s work begins with a simple conviction: complex organisations should not have to choose between clarity and adaptability. The systems that matter most are those that can hold context, preserve judgment, and help people act together without losing their capacity to learn. That conviction informs his approach to entrepreneurship, product development, artificial intelligence, and institution-building.
What distinguishes his work is less the number of ideas he has pursued than a persistent willingness to examine difficult problems from first principles. He has worked across computer science, agriculture, electronics, biology, physics, and entrepreneurship—not as disconnected interests, but as different lenses on how systems behave. Yinusa seeks to identify the structure beneath difficult problems, understand the incentives and constraints that sustain them, and design more durable alternatives.
Recognition and early work
His entrepreneurial work has received recognition across local and international innovation platforms. He emerged as the overall winner of the AFEX CodeCashCrop Challenge, received TotalEnergies Startupper of the Year recognition in the Innov’Up category, won the Flour Mills of Nigeria student innovation competition, and received recognition for the FSI Best Project. He has also been recognised through the European Institute of Innovation and Technology’s EIT Food network, including as an EIT Food Education Start-up Award winner. Through the UNESCO × Nestlé Youth Impact initiative, he was selected among the Top 100 Global Project Leaders for environmental sustainability and climate action.
Beyond competitive recognition, his development has included programmes and communities such as Orange Corner Nigeria, Mastercard Foundation initiatives, LEAP Africa, and EIT Food. Earlier in his journey, he co-founded Digital Amazonite, a digital-education initiative that has equipped hundreds of young Nigerian women with digital skills and entrepreneurship capabilities. These experiences reinforced a practical view of innovation: ideas gain meaning only when they become capable of creating access, competence, and durable opportunity for other people.
FARMCI and the longer work
FARMCI is one of the clearest expressions of this approach. What began as a competition idea became a sustained attempt to rethink how agricultural produce can be preserved, processed, and valued in Nigeria. Its evolution from a food-technology proposition into an agricultural data and intelligence company reflects a larger direction in Yakubu’s work: building systems that make complex sectors more understandable, more coordinated, and more capable of compounding value over time. FARMCI was subsequently recognised by EIT Food as a food-technology start-up working to transform how agricultural produce is preserved and valued.
Today, Yinusa’s interests extend beyond agriculture alone, into artificial intelligence, agentic systems, food intelligence, data infrastructure, and the design of technology that can operate within African-market realities. FARMCI and SAINA represent connected dimensions of that work. FARMCI concerns the intelligence, integrity, and resilience of food systems. SAINA concerns the coordination of intelligence across data, tools, workflows, and institutions. Together, they reflect a longer-term interest in infrastructure: not merely producing individual products, but developing the systems that make better products, decisions, and institutions possible.
What these letters examine
The archive of his writing is part of this work. It is a record of ideas on systems, leadership, automation, organisational design, and the practical discipline required to turn an abstract vision into a durable structure. It is not intended as a catalogue of finished answers. It documents an ongoing inquiry into how people coordinate, how organisations preserve knowledge, how technology can support judgment, and how ambitious work can become resilient enough to outlast its founders.
His philosophy is simple but demanding: innovation should not exist merely to sound impressive. It should solve something real, create leverage, and become useful to people. Technology, in his view, is most valuable when it makes complexity more intelligible, improves the quality of decisions, and enables people to act together with greater clarity.
Despite the recognition he has received, Yinusa does not describe himself as someone who has figured it all out. He has written openly about failed experiments, ideas that did not become products, financial constraints, uncertainty, fear of failure, and the difficulty of turning recognition into sustainable enterprise. His journey has therefore been less a straight line of success than a continuous cycle of experimentation, failure, learning, iteration, and rebuilding.
Awards are evidence that ideas have been recognised; they are not evidence that the work is finished.
Yinusa is ultimately interested in building institutions, technologies, and intellectual infrastructure that can outlast individual projects. His ambition is not simply to become another successful entrepreneur, but to contribute to a generation of African builders capable of creating globally competitive technologies, companies, and systems of knowledge while remaining deeply grounded in African realities.
He is still experimenting. Still learning. Still building. And he remains convinced that some of the world’s most consequential problems are waiting for people willing to look beneath their surface—and build the systems that make better possibilities possible.
